I belong to several Facebook prepper groups and all of them are great places to share and learn information on how to better prepare.
I posted my article, “Food Prices WILL Escalate Dramatically – Prepare Now – A Budget Preparedness List for Beginners,” and had several very positive responses. People are thanking me for posting this because they are just getting into preparedness.
In reading the responses, I had one I felt really needed to answer thought I might as well share the answer with the rest of you.
Here is what this gentleman said.
“Food prices going high isn’t a sound reason for stockpiling food. That assumes prices will never go back down. You must be able to rotate those food stocks. You need to ask yourself what scenarios you are really preparing for. War? Famine? Shortages? Natural disasters? Economic collapse? Societal collapse? When the children down the street are starving, are you really prepared to let them do so? How many people does it take to maintain a society? What happens when you grow old and die? There are extremes to prepping. Ask yourself some of those questions and keep it in scope.”
What we are facing is a perfect storm. It isn’t just high prices.
Remember taking an airline flight and going through the flight attendant’s instructions? One of those instructions is to put the oxygen mask on yourself first and then on your child or another person who may be incapacitated.
Scripture commands Christians to do the following. 1 Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” The King James Bible says ton “Be Ready Always.”
Folks, always means always. Always means always.
How can you help people, share the hope, and be a light to others if you are in tattered clothing with your hand out while standing in the soup kitchen line?
We Are NOW Facing the Perfect Storm
The gentleman above asked, “What are you preparing for? War? Famine? Shortages? Natural disasters? Economic collapse? Societal collapse?”
Seriously and realistically… all the above.
Inflation
Inflation is destroying the dollar, and like it or not, it is not going away anytime soon. Even if it does, it will take years to recover from what has already taken place. The last HUGE recession during the Lydon Johnson years took more than 14 years to recover.
For those who can, remember the insane interest rates? Yep, that was a result. How about those long gas lines where you had to wait for hours just to get 10 gallons of gas because it was rationed?
Nixon was able to help the nation a bit, but not much. We then elected Jimmy Carter, who, till the present, was literally the worse president ever to be elected. He kicked the can down the road and our nation went into another great recession from 1969 to 1970.
So, we have a history of poor administration plunging our nation into financial hardship that takes years to recover.
Just like what is happening now.
Lack of Global Resources Means Tapping Out Fertilizer Reserves
Which in and of themselves are creating several domino effects.
The world’s fertilizer reserve will be spent by the end of September 2022. This is not easily replaced and will take 1-3 years to build up. Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus produce 40% of the raw materials. That is impeded at this moment. Very little fertilizer means fewer and smaller crops.
Because of what is taking place now and the rising costs of fertilizer, the seed industry is also being affected. No seed means no food being grown.
Here is a video interview with congressman Dan Crenshaw talking to Peter Zeihan. In this clip, the geopolitical strategist lays out his reasoning for why much of the world could experience massive disruptions in the food supply over the coming years. All because of a lack of fertilizer.
Cattle Are Being Affected
Ranchers are going out of business due to insane heat, drought, and the exploding costs to feed, water, and care for cattle. They have been selling off not only their meat cattle but also their breeding cattle. This means next spring, there will not be as many calves born, which means that for the next several years, there will not be much US beef coming to market.
Just so you know, it takes about ten years to recoup a herd to 100% efficiency.
Poultry Are Being Affected
Due to the avian flu, mass quantities of poultry are being killed off or have died. Go to the store now and look at how high the prices for chicken have become.
Using the example of chicken wings, these were easily $3 – $4 dollars a pound. Just the other day, I priced chicken wings at $18 for two pounds and around $9.35 a pound. Legs, thighs, and breasts are right behind it, sitting at $5 – $8 a pound.
Inflation is taking its toll on the poultry industry, but so are supply and demand. There simply isn’t enough chicken so prices are reflecting this.
Insane Energy Policies Going into Effect That Will Cripple This Country
The current administration is putting us into an energy crisis when our nation just two years ago was energy independent. We have an abundance of fuel under our feet but very poor decisions from this administration and insane environmental policies are preventing the capture and production of said fuels.
With that said, the US is facing a harsh winter this year. We are currently seeing it in Virginia, where we live. Already leaves have begun falling and colder weather has moved in.
The 2023 Farmer’s Almanac was released on August 15th, and it is also stating the US is looking at a very harsh winter, and some are calling for “the coldest winter of the century.”
With these insane environmental policies and ever-rising prices thanks to inflation, there will be many who will have to make the decision to either feed their families or stay warm this winter.
The Average Family Credit Lines Are Being Tapped Out Already
The average family’s credit cards are getting maxed out because inflation has stolen approximately $700 a month of the people’s buying power.
In other words, wages have not gone up, but the buying power of the dollar has gone down. It takes more dollars to buy the same thing and pay the same bills one bought/paid the week, month, or year before.
The average family is depending more on their plastic to see them through to the end of the month because they do not have money in the bank.
The result is that their credit limit is already getting tapped out, and we still have not come into the winter yet when people will need more income just to feed their families and keep them warm over this projected killer winter.
And this is just the tip of the ice burg that is happening here in the US.
Global Issues Bleeding Over to the US
Russia just announced they have shut off the natural gas pipeline that feeds Germany and, in fact, most of Europe. They say it is for routine maintenance, but with all that is going on over there, I would expect it to last longer than three days of maintenance.
As a result of the announcement, natural gas prices rose on Friday (Aug 19th) and they are now more than twice as high as a year ago.
The Europeans are getting hit even worse.
Look for the EU buyers of food and energy to start out bidding on the American buyers. What folks need to remember is that the ones with the higher bid will win.
This means no matter what, costs are going to go up to either keep our food and energy here in the US, or they will be higher because the supply and demand are higher due to our food and energy being shipped out to the EU and other countries.
So, in the long run, it isn’t just “high prices” that are a reason to properly prepare one’s pantry to weather this winter. But I strongly recommend people prepare to have enough to get them and their families through to the end of summer of next year.
Conclusion
People are going to have to become food independent, grow their own, hunt and fish their own, forage their own, and barter their own.
And now is a good time to start while you still can.
So, posing the question to the gentleman, isn’t it better to stock up NOW while you can still purchase ahead of the curve?
OR let me put it to you this way… would you rather buy a 20 lb. bag of rice now for $14 a bag (Costco), or would you rather buy it at $50+ dollars a bag later?
Common sense tells us to do that now, that is, unless you are independently wealthy and will have money to burn in the future, buying food at 3-4 times what you are spending on it now.
I am deeply concerned with what we are going to be facing these next few years.
It would be prudent for people to stock up more now while they have the funds, and the food is available at somewhat “lower” prices instead of waiting and playing catch up, falling behind the curve with all those others who did nothing.
We are entering “The Perfect Storm” not only nationally but globally.
It is going to take years to recover what has taken place this last year nationally and globally. And it will be you and I who will have to pay for it.
Or, and remember those 80,000 new IRS agents that just got approved? They will go after the corporations first, but then guess whom they will go after next after bleeding them dry? Yes, the Middle Class where a lot of money is sitting now.
Ben Franklin stated, “Money saved is money earned.”
The more you prepare now and continue to prepare, the longer your family will stay ahead of the curve and not fall to the masses who will be in utter chaos. And that is a fact.
Don’t believe me? Just look to Argentina. We as a nation are on the very same path to implosion.
I just did a search on “Argentina economic collapse” on YouTube. Go see for yourself here https://tinyurl.com/Argentina-Economic-Collapse Argentina has been dealing with its economic collapse since 2001.
We in this nation are facing a perfect storm. What are you going to do to help yourself and your family?

Jesus says in scripture “ Mar 13:19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
Mar 13:20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.”
Better prepare to meet our Lord too by making sure we have upon us the garment washed in the blood of the Lamb, the wedding garment.
AMEN
Those who find excuses not to prepare, even with the overwhelming reasons and extremes in everything screaming you should do so, are in denial. Easier to do nothing and not worry about it. For now, anyway. It will be tragic later on when reality slaps them in the face. Few will prepare no matter how many warnings are given. Which is why those who do need to try and locate themselves as much out of the way as is possible. The last person on my list to help are those who knew and did nothing. It’s a sure bet they will remember you did.
We are always looking for contributions like this for our GMO Tuesday productions…
GREAT information…thank you.

Looks like you said Carter was president in 1969 and 1970, when I think you meant 1979 and 1980.
Yeah, my bad. I was meaning Johnson and his actions spilled over and allowed Carter to kick the can even further. Thank you for your comment it is greatly appreciated!
